LAGOS COMMEMORATES WORLD ENVIRONMENT DAY

. . . Charges Citizens to Make Environment Better

The Lagos State Government has commended the significant contributions of corporate institutions towards environmental sustainability as it charged the citizens to act responsibly by making the environment a better place to live.

The Permanent Secretary, Ministry of the Environment, Mr. Abiodun Bamigboye gave the commendation at the launching of Danone’s “One Planet, One Health” to commemorate the 2019 World Environmental Day held at the company Head Office along Billings Way, Oregun, Ikeja.

The event marked with the planting of 100 trees seedlings, an initiative of Fan Milk Nigeria Plc and Lagos State Parks and Gardens Agency (LASPARK), was geared towards improving the value-chain of environmental abundance while reinforcing the Public-Private synergy in greening.

Bamgboye noted that public-private partnership is now a universally progressive idea adopted to achieve enduring success in all government programmes, adding that trees provide both aesthetic beauty and physical comfort within the environment.

He emphasised that through the tree planting, the annual Biodiversity Exposition for students and the Walk for Nature initiatives, Fan Milk has positioned itself as a trusted partner in State environmental projects.

“The State Government is always excited with lovers of the environment, particularly those advocating for its sustenance as Fan Milk Nigeria Plc is exemplifying today. It is our utmost desire to build a society that is environmentally responsible and our State has been enlivened with this laudable effort by your organisation”, he posited.

Bamigboye described the intention of the company as a reflection of the creative passion and the profound stride the State Government has made in promoting stability in health and social wellbeing of the citizenry, stating that this would further boost domestic and foreign investors’ confidence in the State economy.

While unveiling the roundabout adopted by the company at Billingsway, the Permanent Secretary stated that the company is making a huge statement towards ensuring that the quality of lives of the people within the environment is improved.

“This lofty step by FanMilk in taking over this strategic place for landscaping and beautification is well appreciated by the State Government as we believe more can still be achieved with decisive effort”, he submitted.

The Permanent Secretary implored other private corporations to identify with the greening project of the State, pleading for collective efforts to enhance the act of tree planting and accommodating trees in buildings.

In his keynote address, the Managing Director of Fan Milk Nigeria Plc, Mr. Herve Barrere disclosed that the initiative was borne out of the company’s desire to leave a legacy that future generations would be proud of and also continue its avowed commitment towards supporting environmental sustainability.

Barrere pointed out that the project is in line with the company’s resolve to be an active and responsible partaker in the environmental protection activities globally, revealing that it will also serve as an avenue for exposing and integrating the younger generation to the practice of environmental management.

“Our corporate purpose of caring for health and the environment remains resolute as we are focusing on inculcating the younger ones with the appropriate information on how to keep our planet safe, thereby assigning them the responsibilities to ensure the environment is livable”, Barrere stated.

The Managing Director expressed gratitude to Lagos State Parks and Gardens Agency (LASPARK) for their consistent and exemplary initiatives, assuring the government that FanMilk Nigeria Plc remains committed to collaborating with the Agency in taking the greening project to lofty heights.

The event witnessed the planting of hundred trees in the premises of the company by members of staff, students and other dignitaries at the occasion.
