Engineer Nurudeen Olalekan Shodeinde — PERMANENT SECRETARY, OFFICE OF DRAINAGE AND WATER RESOURCES

Engineer Nurudeen Olalekan Shodeinde was born into the family of Rahman Olayiwola Shodeinde of blessed memory and Hairat Adufe Shodeinde in Lagos on 2nd October, 1966.

He attended Ekimogun Nursery and Primary School, Surulere, where he obtained his primary school leaving certificate in 1977 and proceeded to Ansar Ud Deen Grammar Schhool, Surulere for his secondary education where he passed his WASC in 1982. He studied Civil Engineering at University of Ilorin, Ilorin, where he bagged a B.Eng. (Hons) in Civil Engineering in 1987 before he proceeded to University of Lagos, Akoka, Lagos where he added a Master of Science Degree in Construction Technology in the year 1990 to his educational achievement. He also has an M.B.A (Finance) from Lagos State University, Ojo, Lagos, which he obtained in the year 2004.

He started his career as an engineer at the Local Government level in 1990 and served in several Local Government Areas across the state amongst which are Alimosho LGA, Lagos Island LGA, Apapa LGA, Surulere LGA, Eti-Osa LGA, Ibeju-Lekki LGA etc. His service was transferred to the main stream civil service in 2006 as an Assistant Director and he had worked in various capacities in the Ministries of Housing, Education, Environment, Works & Infrastructure and Physical Planning & Urban Development. All these meritorious service has spanned 29 years to date.

He was the Coordinator of the Lagos State Wastewater Management Office (LSWMO)  between August, 2012 to June, 2015. During Engr. Olalekan Shodeinde’s stint at the Lagos State Wastewater Management Office, the Agency recorded several modest achievements in her efforts at minimising all forms of pollution from wastewater mis-management and in the provision of wastewater infrastructure for the state.

His service was posted to the Lagos State Urban Renewal Agency (LASURA) from 2015 to 2016, as the Head of Project Development Department from where he championed the increase of budgetary allocation to the Agency. He was thereafter deployed to the Ministry of Works and Infrastructure (MOW&I) between 2016 and 2017. At MOW&I, he was the Director – Project Monitoring Evaluation and Training (PMET).

He assumed the position of the General Manager, Lagos State Building Control Agency (LASBCA) in May 2017 to July, 2019. Since his assumption of office, the built environment witnessed a tremendous impact in the area of construction according to regulations and compliance with the extant Law of the land.

Engr. Nurudeen Olalekan Shodeinde is a qualified Civil Engineer that is hard working, reliable, committed, versatile, result oriented and a very innovative person.

Engr. Olalekan Shodeinde is a member of some professional bodies in the country that include, Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE), Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria (COREN),  Nigerian Institution of Civil Engineers (NICE) as well as international bodies like Water Environment Federation (WEF), and International Water Association (IWA). He also has certification as Public Private Partnership (PPP) financial analyst from the Institute of Public Private Partnership (IP3).

He was appointed in July 2019  by Gov Babajide Olusola Sanwo_-Olu as the General Manager, Office of Drainage Service to midwife the process of re-creating the Office to engender effective flood control mitigation measures and bring the State back to the golden era when flooding was effectively managed and tamed and was later elevated to the exclusive class of Permanent Secretaries in the Lagos State Public Service as he was sworn in on August 19, 2019 as the Permanent Secretary, Office of Drainage Service and Water Resources.

Engr. Nurudeen Olalekan Shodeinde is a muslim and happily married with children.
